Updated December 20 : Exciting Kilkenny County Senior

The battle of the Titans
There can't have been too many county championships around the country as exciting as last Sunday's in Connahy of Kilkenny. Relive the excitement through the wandering minstrel's writings.

Go Raibh Maith Agaibh

Thanks to Emma, Mickey and all the staff in the Munster Express for their excellent coverage of athletics over the past year. It is widely appreciated by all fans of the sport and has also been commented on nationally by the AAI association. We would also like to thank all our sponsors for their support over the past number of years and without whose help the club could not achieve the success it has. On behalf of St Senan’s AC we wish you all a very happy Christmas and a prosperous new year.

St.Senan's Top 20
St Senans athletes traveled to Dundalk IT for the first stage of the Leinster juvenile cross country championships yesterday and brought back a haul of twenty medals, the best return from this event in many years. There were some superb individual performances as well as battling team efforts.
A few features were, another thrilling run from the Morgan brothers, Hugh and Luke, a great race by Bronagh Kearns and Leanne Foskin, while in the older age groups both Catherine Fennelly and Colin Butler were outstanding.
However it was the team performances that were most impressive and on the day all the athletes rose to the occasion and can be justifiably proud of their achievements. Now from 20 starters we have 13 going on to the All Ireland in Sligo, a great result.
Meanwhile in the ladies novice 3000m, Adele Walsh had a superb run to take the bronze medal behind two very strong Dublin athletes, showing great stamina and determination over the final lap. In the men’s novice, both James Howley and Damien Walsh performed well in a race in which Danny Darcy was a class apart. Read the full report and check out some photos from the day.

October 17 : More Cross Country!
Tale of the Century
St Senans had twelve athletes in action at the Century Homes cross country in Dungarvan last Sunday and there were some very encouraging performances from both women and men. In a hugely competitive ladies 4000m race, Adele Walsh had an excellent run to take 3rd behind a very impressive Diane Behan of West Waterford. Best of the bunch for the men was Owen Gahan in 11th place with Aidan Lanigan showing good early season form in 20th. PJ Dwyer had a splendid win in the O/45 category, while Robert Duggan, Nicholas, Halley and Damien Walsh had their best runs to date. In the interclub duel between St Senans and West Waterford, victory went to the men of the West and sadly the Ryan Perpetual Shield has to remain on foreign soil for another year. Once again great credit is due to the West Waterford club on a first class event, with huge numbers, superb facilities, a great race video and the finest of post race refreshments. All delivered in the best of good humour, top marks lads. Get the full story here.

Long Haul to Dundalk
Next Sunday sees the St Senan’s juveniles make the long trip to Dundalk IT for the first stage of the Leinster cross country championships for uneven ages. See who's going

Chills and thrills in Castlecomer

St Senan’s athletes turned in another great performance at a chilly Stage 2 of the Kilkenny County juvenile cross country championships in Siberia Field, Castlecomer Sunday October 9th. There were several outstanding individual performances, while our teams had their best outing yet, with four squads winning medals. Our elite vet’s squad included new recruit Nicholas Halley, who led home the team to silver medals. Get the complete lo-down.

Our photo section is constantly (almost!) updated, so keep an eye out for yourself!

And don't forget Gerry's memorable quotations!

October 3 : Cross Country Abu

Great Start in Ballycurran, despite poor team turnout
St Senan’s athletes turned in a great performance at Stage 1 of the Kilkenny County juvenile cross country championships at Ballycurran Cross last Sunday, October 2. See how the spoils were shared out here.

Club Cross Country a terrific success
With athletes from near and far turning up, there was never any doubt that St.Senan's Open CC would be the best bet around. See how it went

Thanks to our Sponsors

A big thank you goes to our sponsors for our Open Cross Country, Caulfield’s Super Valu, Hypercentre, Waterford and Waterford Crystal for supplying the prizes for the event. We were delighted too to have Tomas Caulfield, Managing Director of Caulfields Super Valu on hand on the day, to present the valuable team prizes. Like all small clubs it means a great deal to have the backing of local firms and in St Senans we are lucky to have the support of excellent sponsors for our three annual events. So please support those who support us and check out the Sponsor’s page on our website at ww.stsenansac.com. Thanks also to all our helpers on the ground last Sunday (you too Stella) and to our starter Ned Williams, the fastest gun in the West!!

Humble Pie
The battle for the Ryan Shield will be an uphill climb for our men’s squad, however the addition of half marathon man, Owen Gahan and our own ‘Sean Og’ Caulfield for the return leg, the Century Homes 5 mile race in Dungarvan on 16th October, will make it a closer affair. If we pull it off, it’ll be the greatest escape since Colditz !!

Out on his Owen
The Great North Run in Gateshead on Sunday 18th last saw the world best time beaten as a new record of 59.05 was set by Tadesse of Eritrea. Our own Owen Gahan had a good run covering the distance in 75.48. Nice to see Owen in good shape coming into the cross country season, where he will be a big addition to the Kilkenny squad. The popular Moolum man will be back in Dungarvan for the return clash with West Waterford on the grass.

Ferrybank Open CC
Held recently at the Clover Centre in Ferrybank. Check out how our huge contingent got on here.

September 9
St.Senan's Open CC

The St.Senan's Open Cross Country will take place on Sunday September 25th at the Sports Complex in Kilmacow, starting at 1pm. details here

The Ryan Lion

The club would like to welcome West Waterford into the lion’s den as we plan to ambush their hopes of holding onto the coveted Ryan Memorial Shield. Club captain Bill Lacey said in an interview on Al Jazeerah television “There’ll be nothing only the rusty stubs of their spikes found sticking out of the Kilmacow cow patts, by the time we’re finished with ‘em”  It remains to be seen, whether Bill will be bringing home the bacon or eating humble pie.!!

Can't come up with a few bob for some new spikes?

To help keep you in the running gear you're accustomed to, West Waterford AC and St.Senan's have come up with a way to keep you from having to wear your spikeless spikes.
Everyone that runs both the St.Senan's Open Cross Country and the West Waterford Century Homes Cross Country on October 16th will be entered in a draw for a brand new pair of spikes!! Like they say in the ad on tele, if you're not in....you can't win!

Chi-Thanks
A welcome visitor to Waterford RSC last Saturday was international running star Catherina McKiernan, who held a series of classes for athletes interested in learning the principles of ChiRunning. See how they got on

Success in European Juniors

Kilkenny athletes Catriona Cuddihy and Eoin Everard had a very successful trip to Lithuania for the European Junior Championships recently.

'Ken' you believe it?
Lots of local athletes will be familiar with Ken Deevy of KCH, who trains regularly at the RSC. Well now Ken has written his name into the record books, read why here.

Gold and Glory at National T&F Tullamore June 9 & 10

We also had four 4th place finishers and some other fine individual performances. Read details here
