Relay
My Dears
The
club had lots of young stars in the
shortcourse relays in Sion Road with
medals for the girl’s U/13 and boys
U/15 teams. In the U/11 race we had
three teams in action made up of
Dearbhala Kearns, Ciara Doody, Tara
Lacey, Clare McEvoy, Emer Lawrence,
Aoife Halley, Gretta Ryan and Michelle
McDonald. No medals but lots of good
running so well done. In the U/13 race
the team of Bronagh Kearns, Ciara
Vereker and Gemma Aylward took bronze
with some great running while Karen
Costelloe, Ciara Kennedy, Aoife and Orla
Butler, Aisling McDonald and Sinead
Doody also ran well. In the U/15 race
Eimear Breathnach and Emily Carroll ran
strongly and are shaping up well for the
T&F season. For the boys the
turbo-twins Eoghan and Gerard Wallis
along with Hugh Morgan had a great run
and were unlucky to be pipped for 3rd
place, while in the U/13 Ryan
Dowling, Ian Williams and Owen McEvoy
all ran well. The U/15 team picked up
bronze thanks to some good running from
Darragh Dwyer, David Walsh and Luke
Morgan. The club were missing a few
faces on the bus on Sunday last and as a
result may have missed out on medal
chances. All excuses in writing to Bill
or Pam!!!
Double
Gold
In the ladies 2000m race juniors Leanne
Foskin and Claire Walsh set off at a
great lick closely followed by Ann Doyle
of Gowran. As the race progressed Leanne upped the pace and opened a gap
on the chasing pack and from here to the
finish was going further away. Claire
took silver with a great run and is
another exciting prospect. Lots of
divisions in this race from Novice to
Senior as well as Masters so there were
lots of winners. The men's race was an
exciting event with the lead changing
many times during the race. On the
fourth and final lap a back in form
Colin Butler put in a classy performance
to take first place ahead of Brendan
Kavanagh, Gowran in
2nd place and John
Connolly, Thomastown in 3rd.
Stephen O'Keeffe, Kilkenny City Harriers
and Robbie Kavanagh, Thomastown were 4th
and 5th respectively. St
Joseph's won the team gold with 43
points through Rocky Mernagh 6th,
Martin Manning 7th, Michael
Power 8th and Pat Fenlon 22nd. St Senans were second with 44 points and Gowran were
third with 56 points. Rocky Mernagh won
the gold in the over 40's section, Denis
Cormack, Gowran won the silver and the
bronze went to Michael O'Keeffe,
Thomastown. Michael Power, St Joseph's
was first finisher over 35, Jim Miller,
Kilkenny City Harriers was first in the
over 45's and Mick Walsh, Gowran was
first over 50. In the men's novice St
Senans had first and third place with
James Howley and Damien Walsh
respectively and the silver medal was
won by Eddie Hawe, Kilkenny City
Harriers. Great to see Colin back in
action and in such good form following a
serious injury.
