Grand Finale in Scanlon Park
The county T&F championships came to a conclusion in Scanlon Park last Sunday with St Senan’s athletes again featuring in many of the events, taking home another 42 medals. This has been one of our most successful championships to date and great credit to our coaches Brendan, Pam and Stacey who with the assistance of Bill Lacey have done a great job in preparing the athletes.

Classy Lassies
In the 80mH event first among the medals events was the trio of Bronagh Kearns, Aoife Butler and Orla Butler who had a clean sweep in the U/13 race while Rosanne Kennedy  took silver in the U/16 race. Rosanne was also among the medals in the U/16 1500m, where she just pipped Sarah Dollard for the silver medal. In the 300m Tara Lacey again showed great form as she stormed to a silver medal. The U/18 1500m saw Leanne Foskin take the first of her two golds of the day with an impressive win. In the junior ladies 3000m Catherine Fennelly took silver behind winner Jeannette Boran of Castlecomer. She also won a bronze as a senior in the same race. In the field events Bronagh Kearns was a winner in the U/13 high jump with Ciara Vereker in silver and Karen Costello in bronze, while the U/16 event Sonya Aylward took bronze. The junior team of Catherine Fennelly., Leanne Foskin, Claire Walsh and Janet Moore had a good win in their relay race.

Lively Lads
In the 200m Evan Duggan had another great run to take silver with Martin Davis also in flying form in bronze. The 300m race saw another stunning run by that lighting bolt Hugh Morgan. In the U/14 1500m Luke Morgan came home alone to take gold, while in the U/16 race Daniel Davis had to work hard to fend off the challenge of Aidan O’Dowd of Gowran. The 80mH events saw Darragh Dwyer win gold in the U/15 race, while Daniel Davis won silver in the U/16 race. The field events saw Eoin McEvot win bronze in the U/12 shot putt, while Ian Hearn took silver in the U/13 event behind a very impressive Diarmuid Hickey of Gowran who had a 10m plus throw. Davis Walsh won the U/14 shot, while Daniel Davis took another silver in the U/16 competition. In the relay race forU/15 boys the squad of Darragh Dwyer, Luke Morgan, David Walsh and Conor Rochford won gold.

Me and Robbie Magee
The combined 3000m team race, which was the brainchild of Bill Lacey was a very competitive affair with Mick Kelly and Robbie Magee fighting out a duel to the line with Kelly taking the win. Sean Caulfield was well clear in 3rd place, while Aidan Lanigan battled hard to take 4th. Colin Butler well also well place in 6th with James Howley, PJ Dwyer and Nicholas Halley also running well giving the club the silver medal position in the team event. Winners All
Outside of the medallists the club had lots of athletes competing and we are very proud of all those who took part and tried their best. That’s what sport is all about, train hard and your day will come. Patience and perseverance as my mother used to say, would bring a snail to Jerusalem.

More Golden Performances at Day 2 of County T&F
St Senan’s athletes were well to the fore again at the second stage of the county T&F championships, taking home 39 medals including nine gold. Among the many impressive performances were fine wins in the shot putt by both Karen Costelloe (U/13) and Janet Moore (U/18). Super runs by Tara Lacey and Hugh Morgan in the U/10 girls and U/11 boys 500m, while Daniel Davis took home four medals including a gold in the U/16 800m. In the older age groups Colin Butler also won gold this time in the junior 1500m. In the walks Fiona Dennehy was a class apart in the girls U/15 2000m race, while Luke Morgan was also impressive in the boys U/14 race and later went on to take another in the 800m.

Relay My Dear
The boys U/16 relay squad of Daniel Davis, Darragh Dwyer, John and Conor Rochford raan well to take bronze medals while the senior men’s team of Damien Walsh, Colin Butler, James Howley and Gerry Madden managed to win silver despite the handicap of a geriatric 4th leg runner. The fast finishing St Josephs squad of Rocky Mernagh, Michael Power, Pat Fenlon and Pat Power took gold.

Good Job Folks
Athletics is not just about the winners and there were some brave runs by many of our younger athletes so well done to all who took part and keep up the hard work, as they say in the Lotto, next week “it could be you’. Thanks also to our coaching staff, parents and helpers not to mention our long suffering bus driver Pat Duggan.
