Juvenile
Races
In the girls U/13 600m race Bronagh
Kearns having won the heats was unlucky
to get boxed in the final and finish
just outside the medals in 4th
place. Karen Costelloe threw a good
series in the U/13 shot putt event
finishing in 5th place. There
were good performances too by twins
Aoife and Orla Butler in the hurdles as
well as Ciara Vereker in the javelin and
long jump. In the boys events Ian Ahern
placed 4th in a competitive
boys U/13 shot putt while Eoin McEvoy
also threw well. Ian goes through to the
All Irelands and with plenty of training
over the next few weeks could be in the
hunt for a medal there.
Juniors
& U/23 Races
Damien Walsh was the top club performer
in the U/23 events taking gold in the
100mH. 400mH, 200m and long jump. He
also won a silver in the 100m and bronze
in the 400m. James Howley won his first
Leinster gold winning the U/23 5000m
race. In the junior events Leanne Foskin
won a hat trick of golds winning the
800m, 1500m and 3000m, while club mate
Claire
Walsh also put in a strong
performance in the sprints. Janet Moore
threw well in both the discus and shot
taking bronze in both events. Colin
Butler continued his winning ways taking
gold in the 400mH an event he shows a
particular talent for. Well done to one
and all and continued success in the All
Irelands.
Walkers
in the Pink
There were some great performances by
our talented young crop of young walkers
at the county road walks championships,
which took place at the Pink Rock last
Friday night. Gemma Aylward got the
squad off to the best possible start
with a thrilling win in the girls U/12
race ahead of Samatha Fenlon, Claire
Forristal and Hannah Comiskey all of St
Josephs. In the girls U/14 race Shauna
Power of St Josephs was first home but
Orla Butler split the St Josephs
domination by taking silver ahead of
Emma Fenlon, while twin sister Aoife
also had a fine race in 5th
place. Fiona Dennehy was dominant in the
U/16 race, where once again she showed
that she is a class act, while Lydia
Meyler and Eimear Breathnach made it a
clean sweep for St Senans. Sally
Forristal of St Josephs was the U/18
winner, while in the senior race St
Josephs all round star Verena Fenlon
took gold with Catherine Fennelly having
a great race in silver and Tracey Malone
of St Josephs taking bronze. Helena
Forristal and Statia Gahan both of St
Josephs were next home. In the boys
races Aaron Fenlon, Richard Power and
Rory Doherty made it a clean sweep for
St Josephs in the U/12 race. Gowran
picked up their first medal in the U/14
race when Eoin Murphy took gold ahead of
Eoin Power and David Manning of St
Josephs. Patrick Synnott of St Joseph
and Robbie Brennan of Aghaviller won the
U/16 and U/18 races, while in the
men’s senior race Michael Ryan of St
Joseph saw off a strong challenge from
team mates Larry Leacy, Martin Manning
and John Joe Lawlor. St Josephs won the
team title, with Leacy and Lawlor the
top two vets.
