Winter Wonderland
The first stage of this year’s Waterford
Road Runners Winter League series saw
the RSC overflow with over 300 runners
of all shapes and sizes including
several St Senans athletes. Great credit
is due to the organisers who handled the
registration, starts, stewarding and
timekeeping with such efficiency.
Included in the glow in the dark army
heading up the Cork Road were Bill Lacey,
Damien Walsh, PJ Dwyer, Andy Dollard,
Cait Caulfield and Tomas Caulfield. The
WRR and Waterford AC websites
www.waterfordroadrunners.com and
www.waterfordac.com have all the
news, results and photos. Check out also
the WRR article on this page. Next
Thursday sees the race proper start when
the handicaps are introduced. Safety is
the primary concern and all runners
should follow the league’s instructions
and obey the stewards at all times.
Remember they’re there for your
well-being. That said do go along and
check it out, it’s the best show in
town.
Training Places
With the All Ireland finals on in
Dungarvan in just two weeks, now is the
time to get in those important last few
nights training. The sessions in both
the Complex on Mondays and Wednesdays as
well as the Friday and Sunday runs in
Dunphy’s Field have given our athletes a
good level of stamina and speed. Thanks
to our coaches who give up their nights
by the fire for chillier climes to help
get the athletes fine tuned, hopefully
their hard work will pay off in
Dungarvan and Athlone.
Coach is Due
Don’t forget that the second two days of
the Level I coaching course takes place
in the RSC on 25th/26th
of Nov. The AAI course is an important
step onto the coaching ladder for all
those involved in athletics.

I Will in my Eye
That it appears was the reply our
esteemed treasurer Tara Walsh gave, when
Brian Swaby popped the question on the
London Eye last weekend. The pair were
on a romantic break in Paris and London,
when the handsome Waterford AC runner,
dropped to one knee and sprang the
pleasant surprise The pair will wed in
August next year, providing it doesn’t
clash with anything important, like say
the county novice. The club will, as we
do in these mixed marriage cases, insist
that any children will be brought up in
a St Senan’s singlet. Joking apart best
wishes to the happy pair from their many
friends in the club and we wish them
every happiness in the years ahead.

Great North Run
Owen Gahan
was St Senans sole representative at the
famous Great North Run in Gateshead last
Sunday and he ran a super race finishing
in a time of 74 minutes. Mick Kelly was
also involved and the tough Gowran man
came home in 73 minutes. Well done to
both. In all 50,000 took part making it
the biggest mass start race in the
world.
Long Time Running
Tara Walsh
made the long run from Cork to Cobh look
like a walk in the park as she completed
her longest road race to date on October
1st. Coming home in a little over 2
hours the long distance treasurer of St
Senans was well pleased with her run and
well she might. Tara’s next outing will
be over the country in the upcoming
cross country races and she will be an
important part of the St Senans ladies
team, who are hoping to continue their
good form of recent years. |
