St.Senan's
get silver..
Sean
Caulfield went with the strong early
pace set by Peter Duggan and Lar Leacy
both of St Josephs with Seamie Murphy of
KCH and Nicholas Halley St Senans also
well in contention. As the race wore on
Duggan upped the pace to open a 20m lead
over Caulfield with Leacy a few yards
further back. These three went well
clear on lap three but down the field
the battle for team medals was hotting
up. St Josephs looked to be in pole
position with Patrick Bookle and Rocky
Mernagh both running well, while PJ
Dwyer was holding on strongly to be the
third St Senan’s scorer. As well as
Murphy, KCH had Ritchie Reynolds running
strongly. At the finish Duggan was a
clear winner with Sean Caulfield a clear
second and Leacy also with a big gap in
third. St Josephs took the team title
with St Senans getting silver by a
single point from KCH. Well done to
Sean, Nicholas and PJ on an excellent
performance. St Joseph’s took first
team medals on 10 points; St Senan’s
were second on 19 points and Kilkenny
City Harriers were third on 20 points.

Ladies
O/30 Race
In the ladies over 30 county
cross-country championships at
Bramblestown, Gowran, on Sunday Liz
Nolan, Kilkenny City Harriers athlete,
was a comfortable winner. Liz got away
from the start and was never threatened.
Verona Fenlon, St Joseph’s was second.
Maria Walsh and Teresa Daly, both from
the KCH club, battled it out for third
place with the more experienced Daly
finishing stronger to take the bronze.
First
team medals went to the KCH ladies.
Queen
of Tara
Tara Lacey got the St Senans
juveniles off to a flying start with a
cracking win in the girls U/9 open race
in Bramblestown. The Molum flyer stormed
down the steep hill before running on
strongly for a fine win, roared on by
proud dad Bill. In the boys U/9 races
the Wallis twins Eoghan and Gerard also
showed good leg speed as they finished 5th
and 6th respectively. These
two have been improving steadily and
have no doubt inherited their father
John’s natural flair for speed! In the
girls U/12 race All Ireland medallist
Bronagh Kearns had a tough battle with
Niamh Farrell of Thomastown and it was
Farrell who got up on the line to take
gold. However these two were well clear
of the chasing bunch and will no doubt
have many more duels in the coming
years. Well done to all.
