Intercounties
St Senans always likes to be represented
in the National Intercounties club cross
country and over the years has had
it’s fair share of success. Last
Saturday’s race in Santry was a
cracking affair at the front with seven
athletes still in contention with a lap
to go. In the finish it was Vinny Mulvey
of Raheny Shamrocks who proved the
strongest, storming clear with 800m to
go and winning impressively, while
Clonliffe took the team title. Sean
Caulfield was first of the club’s
athletes home in 59th place
followed by Nicholas Halley with PJ
Dwyer and Robert Duggan completing the
team. This 12000m race was a tough
outing for the squad so well done to the
team on flying the Kilmacow flag. Gowran
also had a team in action including
Niall Sheehan 40th, Tommy Evans 47th,
Pat Kavanagh and Denis Cormack. In the
ladies race Maria McCambridge of DSD
proved too strong for Rosemary Ryan of
Bilboa with Fiona Britton, Sli Cualainn
taking 3rd place. The junior
ladies saw an impressive run by Sarah
Treacy of Moynalvey who outkicked
pre-race favourite Rosanne Galligan of
Newbridge, while the men’s junior race
saw a clear win for Stephen Scullion of
North Belfast from Rory Chessar of
Ennis. A great day’s racing though
numbers looked to be down on previous
years especially in the junior races.
