8 - Irish Master in Britain |
Ken'
you believe it?
Lots
of local athletes will be familiar with
Ken Deevy of KCH, who trains regularly
at the RSC. Well now Ken has written his name into the
record books by breaking one of the
oldest sprint records on the books.
Competing in the British Masters
Championships in Birmingham, Ken was one
of six qualifiers for the final of the
400m. Drawn in Lane 1 was not an ideal
set-up for a record breaking run, but he
was equal to the task and crossed the
line in 53.1 seconds to take bronze and
also set a new Irish Masters 400m
record. The previous record of 53.4 was
established by none other than Noel Carroll way back in 1987. Kilkenny
athletes have set new standards in a
number of events in recent times.
Catriona Cuddihy in Schools' 400
hurdles, Eileen O'Keeffe in Hammer and
Adrian O'Dwyer in High Jump are some
examples that come to mind. Now Ken can
add his name to the list. Good job as
they say in the States.
