ALL IRELAND GOLD FOR TARA
Last weekend saw the final stage of the All Ireland juvenile championships and the club had 7 athletes in action. Hugh Morgan got off to a great start finishing 4th in fast paced 1500m. Next up was Conor Rochford who came 7th in an equally fast paced 1500m race. Then it was the walkers turn with Tara Lacey and Clare McEvoy competing U14 . Tara got her first all Ireland medal in a stunning performance to win Gold in the 2K walk, Clare McEvoy also competed well coming in 7th in a tough field. Gemma Alyward also gave a great performance coming in 5th in the U16 2K walk. Next up were the twins Orla and Aofie Butler in the U17 3k walk , both giving great performances in a highly competitive race with Orla coming in 6th place and Aoife place in 8th. Congratulations to all who take part and enjoy the rest of the summer.
All Ireland Bronze for Conor
Last weekend saw the first stage of the juvenile championships and the club had four athletes in action. Cliodhna Murphy had an excellent 6th place in the ball throw, while Clare McEvoy took 7th and 8th in the discus and javelin. Hugh Morgan have a fine run in the 800m placing 5th in a very competitive race. Conor Rochford got his first All Ireland medal when he took bronze in the U/18 3000m with a splendid effort. Conor has been a model of consistency in training over the past number of years and this is just reward of all his efforts. Next up it’s the turn of the walkers, Gemma, Tara, Clare ,Orla and Aoife in two weeks time and we wish them every success.
St Senans athletes brought back a large haul of medals from the Leinster Juvenile T&F championships in Tullamore last weekend. Competing on both Saturday and Sunday the event was held in glorious sunshine and brought out some first class performances. On Saturday there were silver medals in the walks for Tara Lacey in the U/14 2000m with Clare McEvoy 4th. Clare took bronze in the discus and 4th in the javelin, while Ailsih Conneely placed 7th in the 1500m. In the U/16 age group Gemma Aylward won silver in the 200om walk. In the U/17 age group Orla Butler took silver in the 3000m walk with sister Aoife in 4th place. In the same age group Aine Kinsella was 6th in a fast 1500m race. In the boys events Jonathan Crowley was part of the county U/13 4x100m team that placed 4th, while Stephen Green placed 6th in the U/14 high jump. Hugh Morgan took bronze with a fighting display in the U/15 800m and repeated the feat in the 1500m. Conor Rochford was back to his best as he challenged for gold right up to the final lap in the U/19 3000m eventually taking bronze and on Sunday ran a fine 1500m race to place 5th overall. You can expect some great runs from Conor in the coming weeks. Well done to all and continued success in finals in two weeks time.

Murphy was top of the podium again at the third of the Kilkenny County T&F
championships in Scanlon Park last Friday night, taking gold in the U/11 300m
in some style. Three athletes got silver medals, Jane Rochford
in the U/9 200m, Ailish Connelly in the U/14 1500,
while in the U/14 discus Clare McEvoy took silver
with an impressive series of throws. Well done to all the athletes who competed
on the night and continued success in the final stage in
Munster Schools Title for Hugh
Morgan
St Senans athlete Hugh Morgan was an impressive winner of the
Minor boys 800m at the Munster Schools T&F championships in Cork IT last
Saturday. Representing De LaSalle College, Hugh has had success at cross country
over last season, is also a talented track runner and the 800/1500m could well
be his best distance. In the junior boys events Stephen Greene also of De
LaSalle placed 4th in the high jump with a best of 1.40m. Senior

St Senans got off to a flying start in the
first stage of the Kilkenny County T&F championships in Scanlon Park last
Sunday with some stunning wins and great individual and team performances.
Among the gold medal winners for the girls were, Katie Murphy in the U/9 100m,
a double gold for Isabel Morgan in the 200m and 800m, Cliodhna
Murphy in the U/12 ball throw, Gemma Aylward in the U/16 1500m walk and Orla
Butler in the U/17 1500m walk. There were silver medals galore too for Shauna
Finn in the U/9 80m, Katie Murphy in the U/11 long jump, Clare McEvoy in the U/14 javelin and Aoife
Butler in the U/17 1500m walk. No shortage of broze
medals either thanks to Missy Rochford in the U/9
300m, Tara Lacey a fighting finish in the U/14 800m, Aoife Butler in the U/17 long jump and Bronagh
Kearns in the U/17 200m.
Double Gold for Hugh
Hugh Morgan had a fine sprinting double taking the boys 100m and 400m
titles in impressive fashion. There were gold too for Conor
Rochford in the junior 800m, while he also took
silver in junior 200m and another silver in the senior
1500m behind Mick Kelly of Gowran. Sprinting is in
the genes they say so it’s little wonder that the flying Finns, Mark and Robert
were among the medals, taking silver and bronze in the U/7 80m as there dad John was a former sprinting star. Jonathan
Crowley is rounding into a fine athlete and he took an excellent
silver in the 800m following up with a bronze in the 80m. In thee high jump Stephen Greene showed a cool head to battle
hiss way to a bronze. Lots of other great runs on the day
that may not have won a medal but were very impressive so well done to all the
athletes who took part.
